Hi Fernanda and welcome to Groove Portal, when did you start to play drums?
Hi Emiliano, thanks for the opportunity!!! I started in 92 when I went living in Brasilia (Capital of Brazil), my brother´s band needed a drummer and my neighbor was Daniel Oliveira, so from the beginning I started studying and joined the band.

Who are the drummers that influenced your style?
I have many influences from several styles, but on the metal I like Dave Lombardo very much, Vinnie Paul, Charlie Benante, but also I admire a lot Terry Bozio, Chad Smith, Keith Moon, Mitch Michaels and many others.

Who did you start to study with and what are you studying now?
Like I said, I started taking class with Daniel Oliveira, with him I learned the basics to it all. Now days I´m trainning a lot bass drum pedal and blastbeat to have more speed and resistance in Nervosa.

Tell us something about your band Nervosa:
My band is a powertrio of thrashmetal formed by only girls with influences of Slayer, Sepultura and Destruction. Besides me (Fernanda Terra) on drums, Fernanda Lira on vocals and bass and Prika Amaral on guitars. We recently signed with Napalm Records (Austrian label) and we are releasing  our first demo now, you can check all the news at: www.nervosa.com.br

How do you you train yourself for recording studio session?
Now that I´m back living in an apartment I´ve been training a lot on the pad, but  I have sponsorship by the biggest studio in São Paulo (Produssom), I try to train alone every week at the end of the day, besides band practice.

Do you teach drums?
Yes, I teach at Bateras Beat of Sao Paulo (Brazil) I use the Dino´s truth method. I already have taught at the end of 90´s at home who came looking for me. But in 2010 I started teaching at Canto do Batuque and soon I joined Bateras Beat.

What are your future plans?
This year I intend to do some workshops through Sonor and Aquarian, which I just close the deal with, and play a lot with Nervosa, we have to release the whole CD until the end of the year, next year we want to do a big tour, we have plans to get out of Brazil. Which other instruments do you play?
Just drums really, when I was living with my brother he taught me a lit bit of guitar but he wouldn´t let me train a lot so I didn´t develop my skills on the instrument. But I can play some punkrock.

Can you give an advice to all those studying drums and that want to become professional drummers?
Study, have a band, respect co-workers, talk less and do more, “Nobody is as big that they can´t learn, or that little that can teach”, always research and learn drums/music. Nothing is as good that can´t be improved because perfection doesn´t exist. It´s an instrument that demands lot of dedication, so , don´t settle.

Ciao Fernanda e benvenuto al Groove Portal, quando hai iniziato a suonare la batteria?
Ciao Emiliano, grazie per l’opportunità! Ho iniziato nel 92, quando sono andata vivere a Brasilia (capitale del Brasile), la band di mio fratello aveva bisogno di un batterista e il mio vicino era Daniel Oliveira, quindi fin dall’inizio ho cominciato a studiare e mi unii alla band.

Chi sono i batteristi che hanno influenzato il tuo stile?
Ho molte influenze da stili diversi, ma sul metal  mi piace molto Dave Lombardo, Vinnie Paul, Charlie Benante, ma ammiro molto Terry Bozio, Chad Smith, Keith Moon, Mitch Michaels e molti altri.

Con chi hai iniziato a studiare e cosa stai studiando ora?
Come ho detto, ho iniziato a prendere lezione con Daniel Oliveira, con lui ho imparato le basi per tutto. Ora giorni sto studiando molto sul pad e con il doppio pedale per avere più velocità e resistenza sui blastbeat e tempi veloci nei Nervosa.

Raccontaci qualcosa della tua banda Nervosa:
La mia band è una powertrio di thrashmetal formata da solo le ragazze con influenze da Slayer, Sepultura e Destruction. Oltre a me alla batteria, ci sono Lira Fernanda alla voce e basso e alle chitarre Prika Amaral. Abbiamo recentemente firmato con la Napalm Records (etichetta austriaca) e stiamo liberando il nostro primo demo ora, tutte le news su: www.nervosa.com.br

Come ti prepari per le registrazioni e session in studio?
Ora che sono tornata a vivere in un appartamento mi sono allenata molto sul pad, sono sponsorizzata dal più grande studio di São Paulo (Produssom), cerco di esercitarmi ogni giorno oltre alle prove con la band.

Insegni batteria?
Sì, insegno al beat Bateras di Sao Paulo (Brasile). Uso il metodo “verità” di Dino. Do lezioni private dalla fine degli anni ’90. Ma nel 2010 ho iniziato a insegnare al Canto do Batuque e ben presto poi sono entrata al beat Bateras.

Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?
Quest’anno ho intenzione di fare alcuni workshop con Sonor e Aquarium, e suonare molto con Nervosa, uscirà il nostro ultimo CD fino alla fine dell’anno. L’anno prossimo vogliamo fare un grande tour, abbiamo piani per uscire del Brasile. Sul mio sito www.fernandaterra.com tutte le news.

Quali altri strumenti suoni?
Solo batteria, quando vivevo con mio fratello lui mi ha insegnato un po’ di chitarra ma non potevo studiare molto per cui non ho potuto sviluppare le mie abilità sullo strumento. Ma so suonare un po’ di punkrock!

Puoi dare un consiglio a tutti i giovani che studiano e che vogliono diventare batteristi professionisti?
Studiare, avere rispetto dei propri colleghi, parlare poco e fare di più. “Nessuno è così grande da non poter imparare, o così piccolo da non poter insegnare”. Costante ricerca tra studio e musica. Tutto può essere sempre migliorato, anche se la perfezione non esiste. E ‘uno strumento che richiede molta dedizione, non bisogna mai accontentarsi.
